Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about TrustWord.

Setup

How do I add someone to a circle?

Open a circle and tap the invite button to display a QR code and an invite code. The other person scans the QR code with their TrustWord app or enters the invite code manually. Both people need the app installed. For security, always do the initial setup in person or over a channel you already trust. See the Getting Started Guide for step-by-step instructions.

Do both people need the app?

Yes. TrustWord uses end-to-end cryptographic key agreement between two devices. Both people need the app installed to generate their unique, rotating passphrases.

Using TrustWord

Does TrustWord work offline?

Yes. You only need an internet connection for the initial setup (creating circles and inviting members). After that, all verification works completely offline. TrustWords are generated locally on your device using shared cryptographic keys — no server needed.

What if the words change during a call?

TrustWords rotate every 2.5 minutes, but there's a 30-second grace period where the previous words are still valid. If the words change mid-call, the app shows both the current and previous words so you're never caught off guard.

Can I use TrustWord for text messages too?

Yes. If you get a suspicious text from someone claiming to be a contact, you can ask them for their TrustWord via text. The same two-word verification works for any communication channel — calls, texts, video chats, or even in person.

Security & Privacy

Can someone hack my TrustWord?

Each pair of contacts uses unique cryptographic keys derived from a key exchange that happens during setup. Compromising one relationship doesn't affect any other. Your private keys are stored in your device's secure hardware (iOS Keychain or Android Keystore) and never leave your device.

Is my data private?

Absolutely. Your cryptographic keys and passphrases never leave your device. TrustWord contains no analytics, no tracking, and no advertising. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Account & Devices

What if I lose my phone?

Your cryptographic keys are backed up with end-to-end encryption via iCloud (iOS) or encrypted backup (Android). When you set up your new phone and sign in with the same account, your circles and TrustWords will be restored automatically. No one — including us — can access these backups.

I switched phones. How do I get my circles back?

If you had iCloud Backup enabled (on by default on iOS), your circles and cryptographic keys sync automatically via iCloud Keychain when you sign in with the same Apple ID on your new device.

Subscription

Is TrustWord free?

TrustWord is free for up to 10 contacts across all your circles. TrustWord Pro unlocks unlimited contacts for a small annual subscription. All verification features work the same on both plans.

How do I restore my subscription?

Go to Settings in the app, tap TrustWord Pro, then tap "Restore Purchases". Your subscription is tied to your Apple ID and will be restored automatically.
